EMOTIONAL DESTROYER

Behind every great movie in the history is the script, the story. And what story can be more moving than the one based on real life characters and a huge problem that devours the single largest population on Earth, one that lives in India.

Child abandonment is one of the most tragic subjects the movie can tackle, so only the best ones will be recognized as the immortal ones. Australian „Lion” is one of those immortal flicks that will carve its way into your brain and soul so deeply that you will end up weeping while you're watching little Saroo's journey to hell and back.

With impeccable scenario, it was time for the masters of trade to step in and routinely deliver the final product. If you can say that always reliable Nicole Kidman is the „Jack of all trades”, Dev Patel will definitely steal the show in his first serious role on the big screen as a grown up. But, that's not all, since the real stars of this emotional earthquake of a movie will be two rookies, director Garth Davis and young Sunny Pawar. Add some great music and cinematography along the way and you will get something trully outstanding for today's standards.

„Lion” is, without any doubt, THE BEST movie of 2016 and should harvest the „oscars” in every major cathegory it was nominated.

DILUTED TO THE POINT OF BANALITY

When a drama tackles with such a important and difficult life subject as a somewhat forced adoption of a stranded baby, the development and outcome of the movie must be heartmoving and powerful. Everything else will be considered a failure, as is „The light between oceans”.

It is a complete failure of adapted screenwriting, not giving the convincing performances (Fassbender and especially Vikander) that will lead to a proper level of motivation, as well as the failure of elaborating the viable dilemmas that are inevitable after such a plot layout.

Overall tempo will also be pretty much tepid and almost no breathtaking turns will be presented in 140 minutes of the movie, while the very end will be just completely immersed in pathetic.

„The light between oceans” is just a poor movie based on a potentially great story.

INSIGHT TO THE WORLD OF PURE CREATIVITY

Nick Cave is a fascinating character, even for today's standards. A man who never made compromises and led his career more as a baroque poet than a rock'n'roll frontman.

„20.000 days on Earth” is the first authorized movie story about Nick Cave's demons, drug addiction, idols and most importantly, the process of making his music and lyrics. Somewhat frightening character of the famous Australian will forever be tranquilised by this flick, giving us the best insight into his private world up to this date and releasing his pure genius onto the screen before us.

Whether you like Nick Cave and his music or not, you should watch „20.000 days on Earth”, a fascinating story about the dying breed of geniuses.

PRETENTIOUSLY POINTLESS

All the ingredients for a success, all there and all messed up and turned into a pretentious and painstakingly slow story about revenge leading nowhere.

I have a proposition for you. Don’t watch ”The proposition”. It’s not worth your time and patience, even if you’re a patient film lover.

NAZI-PROOF MASTERPIECE

Australian film was a big mystery to me, aside ”Mad Max” trilogy, as well as the culture and the destiny of the local indigenous inhabitants, the Aborigines. This was all until I watched ”Rabbit-proof fence”.

Shot almost entirely with self taught local actors, covering the wastelands of Eastern Australia, ”Rabbit-proof fence” is just one huge triumph after another.

Triumph of shedding a light on a monstrous demographic politics of the Caucasian Australians towards those who come from mixed marriages that lasted up until the 1970s (!!!)

Triumph of a magnificent photography, wide angle shots and lenses and overall directing.

Triumph of development of characters who literally suck you in their stories and make you cheer for them to succeed in getting away from the chasers from hell.

Triumph of Kenneth ”Adolph” Branagh as the ultimate villain which you desire to strangle with your own hands after only several minutes on the silver screen.

”Rabbit-proof fence” is one underrated and obscure masterpiece, in line with ”Schindler’s list” when it comes to depicting Nazi-methods all over the world.
