SLOWLY PICKING UP THE PACE

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are back in the fourth part of the franchise and that fact represents the major turning point in a weakened storyline of this saga. Plot somewhat thickens, as well as the racing/fight choreography, while our regular bad guys now undoubtedly turn to the right side of the law.

„Fast & Furious” represents a step forward compared to the second and third part of the franchise, but nothing more than that.

Snuff movies have been the subject of just a few movies so far, Spanish ”Thesis” probably being the first major one.

Date of production is the major problem for this thriller, making it just not frightening or explicit enough for today’s standards. Plot is solid, but somehow naïve, especially combined with the unconvincing roles of Ana Ana Torrent, Fele Martinez and Eduardo Noriega.

”Thesis” maybe was a good and suspense thriller, but two decades ago.

LONG LIVE KOREAN SCREENWRITERS!

Americans used to know how to make a quality thriller and sell it to the world in the ‘80s and ‘90s, but they lost it. Koreans found that craftsmanship at the turn of centuries and revived the genre in the most beautiful way.

”Montage” has a superbly original script, built around the ageing case that has haunted the victim’s mother and the detective in charge of the case for a decade, but refuses to die off. Suspense is really high throughout, even though the action sequences tend to repeat themselves. The twists are powerful and unexpected. Even the ending isn’t your typical one, defeating the boring American ”safe” concept. When you add some superb cinematography and original angles to it, you get one really prominent movie.

”Montage” represents an absolute recommendation for the genre lovers, as well for everyone else.
