BEATING AROUND THE BUSH

Brazilian movie makers are sort of an exception when it comes to the indie production outside America. Their trademark slow tempo and overall sense of sleepiness might reject some of the audience and „Aquarius” manages to do so with its elongated and not firm enough script about the fight of a single woman against the greedy developers that want to replace her building with a condominium and destroy her memories by doing so.

There will be some decent social and emotional moments along those 2 hours and 40 minutes, but just not enough of them, which is a shame, because Sonia Braga really dominates the screen with her interpretation of Clara.

„Aquarius” could have been a lot better if it was compressed and cleansed from the trademark Latin movie flaws.

PRETTY CONSISTENT

Coming from the prestigious category for Best foreign language movie of the year, „The second mother” brings us classic quality driven real life drama script about the caretaker (Val) deeply embedded in a dysfunctional wealthy Brazilian family. When Val's young and open minded daughter enters this community all hell breaks loose, only to resolve itself in the very end, the way that only non-American dramas can.

Regina Case as a female lead is consistent to the very end, leading a very solid casting to the much needed catharsis without any significant hiccups.

„The second mother” is a true family drama and a very decent one as well.

THE BEST ONE

Full crew, Rio, cars, women, Dwayne Johnson as a guest star. How can such a concept of reviving „The fast and the furious” franchise go wrong? The answer is: It can’t.

Action sequences are better than ever in „Fast five”, while Rio de Janeiro provides a spectacular setback for the production. The rhythm is relentless, CGI is minimal, while the fight scene between Vin and Rock stands as the best one in the entire series. The whole movie just sreams for fun, popcorn and cash from the Box office.

When it comes to „Fast and furious” saga, „Fast five” is by far, its best part.
