COCKY AND PATHETIC

True stories can be a powerful material for movie scripts, but not always. Terrorist attack at the Boston marathon 2013 could’ve made a great movie, but Peter Berg's hasty adaptation starring Mark Wahlberg just isn’t a good story.

It is really emotionally shattering from time to time, but most of the celluloid is just eaten by tacky American patriotism and artificial hope boosting. On the positive side, there will be some really tense and well directed action sequences, but that’s it.

„Patriot’s day” is story about one of those true events that needs a greater historical distance before transcribing into a movie script.

DIRECTING FEAT

True stories are always a powerful material for the big screen. Even when there are no hidden facts to awe the viewer.

Everything said about the Mexico gulf incident with the oil rig has been said in the news. Semi-documentary movie with Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich and Kurt Russell will repeat that story by the numbers, while the director Peter Berg will create „oscar” worthy production and CGI to deliver the atmosphere of the disaster to the viewer.

However, the script will remain the main problem with the movie, not giving the satisfying conclusion nor the epilogue to the story worth of such a closure.

„Deepwater horizon” is one hell of a story that received „just” a solid Hollywood story.

THE MAGIC HAS GONE

First part of the Seth MacFarlane's satirical adventure of politically incorrect talking teddy bear was a huge box-office success and one of the best US comedies in this century, so the great expectations from the second movie were pretty much  logical. Therefore, the disappointment with the result was substantial.

Following the similar cases of „Hangover 2” and „Machette kills”, everything that was to go wrong, went wrong. The script is painstakingly shallow, the humor can only be found in traces and is reduced to blatant vulgarities and self-parody. Even the much appreciated critic of American society from the first one is gone. As well as pretty much everything else that we loved.

„Ted 2” is one of the biggest flops of modern US comedy sequels and a movie to avoid at all costs.
