DECENT CLONE

Ridley Scott's „Alien” inspired entire generations of movie creators and it continues to do so 'till this very day. „Life” is one of the exact replicas of the 1979 masterpiece of SF horror and it does its ripping off relentlessly. There is no proper introduction, just plain old action and horror. The concept of the dormant alien creature (aka Calvin) that does its growing by devouring the crew of the Interantional Space Station is something we already saw more than once. All that follows represent one great mashup of deja vus that stretches out to the ending credits.

The A-list cast will do their parts without mistakes (especially Gyllenhaal), while the CGI and camera will be heavily influenced by the makers of „Gravity”.

Script will wander off pretty early in the movie, so expect no serious and scientifically justifiable plots.

„Life” will not surprise you, but will succeed in amusing you, especially if you were raised on the trash SF horror of the '80s.

ELONGATED AND OVERRATED

Taiwanese cinematography is one of the more obscure Asian ones and „A one and a two” is its most acclaimed flick known to the wider public.

Edward Yang's script is pretty ambitious and follows its slow pace during the entire course of the movie (two and a half hours). Depiction of the the typical Taiwanese family will be done thoroughly, but not cutting into the core of the problems, as well as not giving any meaningful answers on the life questions raised.

„A one and a two” is just too long and too empty for its rating.

ABOUT A GENIUS AND A MADMAN

Documentary about the life of Marlon Brando is as pretentious as it gets. That's why the choice of focusing on the endless sea of tape recordings made by the great actor himself tends to relief the entire concept to a certain level.

The viewer will get a somewhat eery collection of Brando's thoughts which span from authorised interviews to a complete jibberish talk towards the end of his life. There will be some true words of wisdom about the acting process and the fame that followed him, but also some disbanded thoughts that reflect the total chaos in his private life.

„Listen to me, Marlon” is a must see documentary for the fans of Mr. Brando, but also an interesting insight in his fascinating and frightening mind for everyone else.

TOO ARTIFICIAL

Jafar Panahi is one of the leading Iranian movie directors, especially when it comes to Western audience, hooked on the fact that he was banned from making movies by the satanised local government.

To fight this unjust ban, he decides to pose as a taxi driver and make a omnibus documentary about the social problems in modern Iran. He does it hastly, incoherently and above all, unconvicingly.

There are a lot of better Iranian movies about the social problems in that country than „Taxi Tehran”. Also, there are a lot of better Iranian movies than „Taxi Tehran”. A lot.
